Ferries from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, on Monday, August 6, 2018, leave every hour on the hour with the last ferry leaving at 10pm.

Ferries from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, on August 6, 2018, leave at 8:00pm, 10:10pm, and 11:30pm.

So there is plenty of time to catch a sailing after the last round.

Byes are permitted iff requested in writing before the end of the previous round.

If a Round One bye is required, advise the TD in person before 11:00am on August 4, or include that information with your registration.

1/2 point will be granted for all approved byes, except for the last round.

Please attend your pairings, as not attending leaves a player without an opponent for that round, and they didn't pay to sit it out. People come to play!

Cancellations and Refunds

Should something arise that prevents you from being able to attend the tournament, you can email Jeffrey (semiahmooopen@gmail.com) expressing the need to cancel, and your entry fee will be refunded in the manner of your entry fee payment, less $5 per entry.

The deadline for any cancellations is Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at NOON Pacific Time. After this time, refunds are 50%

Entry Fees

Onsite registration between 10:30 and 11:30am: $100

All players must have valid CFC membership, even international players I've recently learned. Sorry about the confusion.

Purchase or renew at chess.ca, or onsite with cash before Round 1.

Play-up permitted if lifetime highest CFC, FIDE, or USCF rating is within 100 rating points of desired section and current is not more than 200 points below.

Play-up fee: $20, payable in cash on August 4, 2017 between 10:30am and 11:30am.

All play-up adjustments will be paid and made at registration.

"Current" rating will be determined on August 2-4, before Round One.

Free entry for GM & IM if entry received by noon on May 31, 2018; after this date, a modest entry fee of $50 will be required for GMs or IMs to enter.

At Pacific Inn Resort: $149 + tax / night; parking is FREE!

Book hotel room directly by phone (604-535-1432), and specify that you are participating in the Semiahmoo Open Chess Tournament.

The special rate for tournament participants (and family) cannot be booked online.

The hotel has agreed to add more rooms held for tournament participants (and family), due to the postponement of the renovations, but hurry if you need a room.

Other accommodations in area:

Best Western Peace Arch Inn: 604-541-8100; 2293 King George Blvd

Breakaway Motel: 604-535-1110; 2160 King George Blvd

Cedar Lane Motel: 604-531-4973; 926 160 Street

Ocean Promenade Hotel: 604-542-0102; 15611 Marine Drive (possible venue for next year's Semiahmoo Open!)

Numerous B&B nearby.

The hotel has advised that the renovations will be delayed, and the Maryana Restaurant will be open during the weekend.

Also, for hotel room guests, the pool will be available.

Several food options are about five minutes drive north on King George Blvd. Also, Morgan Crossing is about a seven minute drive with many food options.

White Rock Beach is a few minutes drive away, so you can stroll the promenade or walk down the pier between rounds, and enjoy fish and chips or ice cream in the sunshine!

At several tournaments over the last few years, some young players have left a mess in the restrooms; this can seriously hamper negotiations with hotels when planning future chess tournaments. Please ensure that your children are using the facilities appropriately. Thank you so much for your help.
